Weekly Whimsy | No. 1

This past weekend we had dinner over at a friend’s. We said it’d be casual, but I think neither one of us can avoid the chance to make things feel a little special—a prettily set table, a homemade dip, fresh flowers. We ate outside and the kids, who promptly left the table after about 2.5 minutes, ran around in the warm weather, enjoying themselves and allowing us to have a little bit of conversation. It was a lovely evening and a great way to end the summer as preschool started up on Monday!

6 Things on My Mind

Whipped Ricotta Dip — At the dinner over the weekend my friend made this simple whipped ricotta dip and served it cold (her dip bowl was placed in another bowl which had ice in it) and it was just about the most delicious thing. She said it was super easy to make; whole milk ricotta whipped, lemon zest, olive oil and salt!

H&M Short Trench Coat — I’ve wanted a short trench for quite some time, but haven’t found exactly what I’m looking for. There are so many out there right now with all the fall clothes dropping. This one from H&M looks pretty good and the price can’t be beat. But I’m also eyeing this slightly longer one. I’ve never gotten anything from Marks and Spencer, but I love the lining of this.

Linen pants — Post-baby I’m still not fitting in most of my pants which mostly hasn’t been a problem since it’s been hot and I’ve been living in dresses. However sometimes you just want to be in pants and these linen pants have been a summer workhorse for me. They’re so comfortable like you’re wearing pajamas, but feel more put together than wearing leggings or sweats. They’re looser fitting which is great for right now when I’m not my regular size. I own the undyed color and am considering getting them in the brown since they’re on sale and I’ve been wearing them on repeat!

Magnatiles creations — Magnatiles are in heavy toy rotation over here. Instagram served me one of the Magnatile buildings from this account and Levi and I created it and now we’ve been building from their ideas everyday. (We also just got a ton more pieces off of FB Marketplace to add to our collection so we could make even bigger constructions, highly recommend checking yours!)

Nail polish — I’ve been painting my nails since I was in elementary school. I’m actually quite good at it. I’ve gone through all the phases—acrylic, french tip, square shape, long, short, gel manicures, you name it. And all sorts of colors. But I’ve really come to realize that the fun, bold colors other people can make look cute, and even chic on the right person, just don’t suit me. Every once in a while I get tempted to do something different, but I’ve been trying to pair down and stick back to colors I know I feel confident in, that are more complimentary and feel “on brand” for the style and look I hope to achieve. And that’s nudes, light pinks and reds. They feel classic and clean and timeless. I’ve been loving this one and this one from the Essie Gel Couture line.

Heirloom Tomato Burrata Salad — As a recovering tomato hater, this is bold for me to say, but I had the most amazing heirloom tomato salad at dinner with a friend last week and it immediately made me want to grow my own tomatoes and basil. It was simple. Slices of heirloom tomatoes with olive oil and balsamic (possibly salt and pepper) topped with basil and burrata. SO fresh and so good. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.
