Fall for Littles

Fall always feels like an exciting fresh start. At the end of July or early August I take a look at our calendar and start plugging in tentative dates for all of our fall bucket list activities—baking pumpkin muffins, visiting pumpkin patches, apple picking, etc. It’s also around this time, in the highest heat of summer, that I start to think about fall wardrobes. It stays hot, or at least warm, here for a while, so we don’t really get those cool crisp autumn days until later into the season, but for one, all of the good fall stuff will be gone by then and two it’s just part of the planner in me to want to think through the outfits we’ll have for all our activities. The fashion of it seems to set the tone for the season and even if we can’t dress for crisp weather yet, I like to make a shift in color palettes and textures. An obvious place to start is all the knitwear. A fall and winter basic for little boys and one that I usually get most excited about. I found this little knit fair isle pumpkin one piece for Henry that I can’t wait to put him in. These basic onesies have a great texture to them, making them more interesting, but without the busyness of a pattern. (I ordered the green and the cream). Stripes are a must in every little boy’s wardrobe and this orangey-yellow stripe fit the fall color palette perfectly. I added this brown quilted coat for Levi to my cart instantly. Corduroy is another must-have for fall textures and I love a baby in overalls. Both these color options are great, but if I had to choose just one I’d go green. One of my favorite photos of Levi as a one year old is in a pair of dark green corduroy overalls just like these that he wore apple picking for the first time. If a pumpkin sweater is too on the nose, nothing beats a classic cableknit (I will also probably purchase the red for the holidays).
