Weekly Whimsy | No. 3
This morning was cool and crisp and grey and I couldn’t be more excited. It felt like a true switch to fall and while I realize that it’ll burn off and be warm by this afternoon and we likely still have many hot days ahead, it was a sweet peek into the days ahead and I’m ready. This weekend we finished off Levi’s birthday celebrations with a friend birthday party (vs the family-only celebration we had the previous weekend) and that only added to the “end of summer” feeling. He had a blast and it was a great time, but I’m also glad it’s behind us and I’m looking forward to the season ahead. I always feel most energized and creative this time of year. I love all the fall and holiday activities, even more so since having kids. There’s so much to pack in and be excited for! I can’t wait for Henry to be joining us on all of the adventures this year.
6 Things on My Mind
H&M Order — H&M is one of those brands that is inexpensive, but sometimes comes out with pieces that I keep in my closet for years. I’ve been going through my closet and really purging what I haven’t worn in years for one reason or another. I’d like to take my time to thoughtfully rebuild my wardrobe, but also need things I can wear right now that fit during this transitional post partum period. I ordered quite a few things I thought might work as we transition into fall. The words I’m trying to think about when purchasing are classic, feminine, polished and a little fun. This striped, ruffle button down takes a classic silhouette and adds a punchy stripe and ruffle detail for a bit more interest. I love the berry color on this ribbed knit top and think it’ll be perfect for feeling a bit more fall while the weather is still warm. The blush color of this button down and the ruffle at the sleeve and collar will be a fun, unexpected color for fall. I can se it paired with olive green or eggplant or burgundy. This linen v-neck top is another transitional piece, it works for summer, but the shade I chose will also be great for fall. I mentioned this short trench previously and finally pulled the trigger, hoping I love it because I’ve been on the hunt for one for quite some time. A pointelle sweater like this is so sweet. I love the color combo of this burgundy striped button down. And lastly I ordered this sleeveless wrap dress as a potential backup dress for a fall wedding that isn’t too formal.
Funfetti Cake — I made this funfetti cake for Levi’s birthday and it was such a hit! Boxed cakes are still amazing in my opinion, but if you want to go fully from scratch this was delicious and you can customize the sprinkle colors.
Family Games — Levi has gotten a few games over the past year and I’m loving it! It’s a nice switch up from typical toys which we have plenty of and now he’s finally getting into them. I think it’s such good practice on patience/turn taking and being a gracious loser as well as just some great family time. Some easy beginner games we’ve played lately are Candyland, The Sneaky Snacky Squirrel and Market Match Up.
Toddler Duck Sweater — How cute is this sweater? I picture it with a little collar popping out and a pair of little corduroys. Maybe even with some rain boots. (Side note: can we start calling them wellies in the US too? So much more fun!)
A couple of Instagram accounts inspiring me lately. — Jeanne Ménard has such great taste. She’s French and so I can’t necessarily buy the same exact pieces she’s wearing, but I’m always so inspired by her looks. They feel timeless, feminine and fun. And most importantly, most feel pretty practical, which isn’t always the case when you’re inspired by the things you see online. She doesn’t feel overdone, but each look is always interesting, even if it’s composed of a lot of more simple pieces. So chic! Alexis McMullin is someone I just discovered a few days ago. Here photos and outfits with her kids are dreamy. The coordination, the pops of colors and pattern, I just love it. There’s a nostalgia to her photos and they feel like what I imagined motherhood to be.
Limited Series — I’ve realized lately I love limited series format so much more than shows with 24 episodes and 7 seasons. Or even just the shows that have only 8-10 episodes per season. Maybe it’s the completionist in me that feels satisfied when I’m able to get through with something, but I think it’s also because a lot of shows feel like they get dragged out and often lose what makes them special, but you feel obligated to finish them. And with so little free time, I don’t have time to watch things I’m not absolutely loving.
