Dainty Delights

Vintage Cake Pajamas

I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts the other day (Office Ladies) and they took a question from a listener. She was asking what their “dainty delights” were. Basically they’re the opposite of a pet peeve, something small and seemingly insignificant that brings you so much joy. I loved this idea and have begun noting things that are dainty delights for myself and asking others to share theirs. Here are some of mine:

Being the first one to get into clean sheet night. — Is there even an explanation needed? Freshly tucked, smooth and crisp, nothing beats it.

Having the perfect outfit for the occasion. — I don’t even mean fancy outfits. I basically mean “being prepared”, but in an outfit sense. Like when you’ve packed just the right things for a trip. Maybe it’s a cozy sweatshirt and lounge pants you feel cute in that let you sit on the deck of the cabin you rented with a warm drink watching the sunset (or rise). Or throwing a striped sweater into your beach bag for that boat ride and when it turns a little chilly, you pull it out and over your bathing suit it looks perfectly casual cool.

Matching pajama sets with whimsical prints. — I love a matching pajama set, I’ve made that known. But nothing delights me more than when it has a fun print, even better if it’s a fun food related print. I’m not sure why the food ones get me, but they just do. This brand makes such beautiful prints, I always want them all. I treated myself to this vintage cake print for my birthday. But I also own a waffle print which I love, one with cats and ginger jars and a great summery set with crustaceans similar to this pair. I may need these bagel ones as well.

Little rituals. — Maybe it’s your skincare routine. Or where you sit to have your cup of coffee in the morning in silence. One of mine is turning on lamps throughout the house as the sun starts setting. It almost feels like putting the house in evening mode. My own personal turn down service. More on my “cozy lights” here.

One of Brendan’s dainty delights is finishing things in the fridge especially if it’s just the right number of proportions for something you’re making; the bread, the cheese etc for a sandwich. What are yours?
