Weekly Whimsy | No. 4
The past week was a little bit of wash as the preschool colds have begun to hit! It was also 95 degrees for a few days which was unpleasant to say the least so we were inside a lot. Levi and I did decide to start getting in the fall spirit though and took out our fall decorations and made our first soup of the season (an easy and delicious creamy cauliflower with rosemary olive oil). I also swapped out the candle under our candle warmer to a fall scent and the house feels wonderfully cozy.
5 Things on My Mind
Nordstrom jackets— I had some returns to do in the mall and I always park by Nordstrom to enter. Funnily, on the way in and on the way out I found the cutest little jackets and had to get them (I guess that’s the danger of using Nordstrom as my entrance). The first is a cropped trench with a wide arm. I’m surprised I like it on, to be honest, as I usually prefer jackets and coats to be more tailored, but this one seemed somehow a little fun and feminine with the wide arms. I think it’ll be great for layering with sweaters underneath without getting too tight. The second is the sweetest green plaid button front jacket. It has a bit of stretch, making it very comfortable. I picture it with pants, but possibly even with skirts and dresses.
Vintage Halloween sweater— I’ve been on the hunt for a vintage Halloween sweater for about a year and wasn’t quite finding what I wanted. I search EBay and Poshmark frequently. There are a lot of fun vests, but that feels like it’s leaning a little too much into the 90’s look and while I know that’s trendy, it feels a bit too costumey for my own personal style. I ended up ordering a black cardigan with beaded spiders and I can’t wait for it to arrive. I actually found several (more here) if you’re in the market for a little festive fun.
Zara Toddler Rain Gear— These plaid-lined rainboots are so so cute! I wish they came in my size. Imagine them paired with this waxed plaid jacket?! Clearly I’m dreaming of some cooler days.
Apple picking outfits—We’re headed to our annual apple picking this weekend. The weather is, of course, warmer than I’d like to set the mood. I’ve been pulling together some outfit ideas for the occasion, mostly from our existing closets. In the past I’ve done red and deep greens as my color scheme, but I’m thinking of switching it up a little this year and doing brown, dusty blue and red. Debating on an old JCrew red block print dress or this deep brown for myself. Henry will wear blue corduroy bloomers that used to be Levi’s and a striped onesie. I’m still working on Levi’s outfit, but likely a henley and rainboots. Shop my apple picking outfit collection here.
Dyson Airwrap—I was in a spending mood and came home from Costco with a Dyson Airwrap. I got the Airwrap ID because it’s what they had and it was discounted, but it is a bit more than the regular (on sale here), but reviewers seem to like the attachments it comes with better. I still can’t believe the cost, but I tested it out and three days later, my hair still has a lot of bounce so maybe it’s worth it? I’m still figuring out how to use it, but I’ll report back. Personally, I’m looking for more volume and lasting style. I would love to not have to do my hair everyday, but still have it look put together. The ultimate goal, right?
