Strawberry Plates

Last year I found the most precious vintage strawberry plates at the Alameda Antiques Fair. They’re just about the cutest things I’ve ever seen and I was kicking myself because the woman who sold them to me told me she had also had the smaller size to go with them, but that they’d just sold to someone else. I’ve been on the hunt to find them ever since, but haven’t had any luck. They’re so happy and summery and I’ve been so excited to style a table using them. There were so many ways I could go with them—I do have a perfect green springy placemat I originally thought I’d use with them, but when I decided to put them on our round kitchen table instead of on the dining room table, they didn’t look quite right. I’ve collected so many napkins and placemats over the years, it really feels like shopping to workshop different ideas and pull out all kinds of options. I ended up using large checkered, gingham red and white napkins tied in a simple knot to bring out the strawberries and put them on scalloped yellow and white striped placemats (similar). I added our everyday silver which is a Danish Princess pattern by Holmes & Edwards and were from my grandparents, but I’ve since added to my collection since they’re pretty easy to find (one set here). The look is simple, but joyful and I love the way it turned out. 

I can’t take credit for the amazing bouquet. That was leftover from a baby shower I attended, but was too exquisite to not include. When I make my own the next time I use the strawberry plates, I saw a bunch of fun floral arrangements that actually included strawberries! I’d love to try that.
